Q Switched Nd YAG Laser

The Q-switched lasers are high powered lasers which operate in nanosecond pulse durations unlike most other lasers which have millisecond pulse widths.

They are designed for non-ablative removal of various kinds of pigment collections and can target natural pigments like melanin and haemoglobin and artificial pigments like tattoo pigments. They can target both epidermal (superficial) and dermal (deep) pigmentation.

They work through photo-acoustic (not photo-thermal) mechanisms when the powerful but brief burst of light is absorbed by the pigment. This light energy is then converted into “shock waves” which break up the pigment into smaller pieces. These smaller pieces of pigment can be swallowed by the white blood cells and are washed away into the blood stream and then destroyed.

The wave lengths available in the q-switched laser mode at Oliva are 532nm and 1064nm. We have Pastelle which is a US FDA approved machine with top hat beam.

Our treatment process

Frequently Asked Questions

In determining the number of sessions necessary, our skin specialists consider such factors as the depth, color and amount of ink as well as tattoo locations, patient’s age and skin type. Usually, one requires 5-10 sessions for satisfactory results.

This technique mainly helps in stimulating cells to produce collagen by delivering intense energy into the target area which causes a photo-acoustic effect in the skin. The increased collagen production reduces the appearance of skin imperfections such as fine lines, wrinkles, crow’s feet, acne scars, enlarged pores, and uneven skin tone with no downtime and minimal side effects.

Even though pain tolerance varies from person to person, most people tolerate Pastelle’s tattoo treatment well, and describe the sensation as a rubber band snap on the skin. The majority of patients require no anaesthesia; though topical painkiller is an option for sensitive areas.

The best part of tattoo removal using Pastelle, is that it is effective without any downtime. A mild, pinkish flush might be present for about 15 minutes after the treatment. You can resume regular activity almost immediately.

During the procedure, the laser light which has photomechanical effect on skin pigmentation is used to break down the pigments into very small particles that are then flushed out by the body’s own metabolic process. The energy penetration of Pastelle Q-Switched laser can be adjusted from superficial to deep, which makes it very effective in treating all kinds of pigmentation concerns.

Skin rejuvenation treatment using Pastelle is quick. A full face treatment takes about 15 minutes.

The results can be seen even after the first session. However, one can also witness gradual improvements in the skin texture and tone as the new collagen is produced. Our skin specialists can guide about the number of sessions required for optimal results.

Pastelle uses photo-acoustic energy to selectively target only collagen fibres and pigment. This is a US FDA approved laser and can treat all skin types safely, including darker and tanned skin.
